Cerexagri is a fully owned subsidiary of United Phosphorus Ltd. (UPL), the leading global producer of crop protection products, speciality chemicals and other industrial chemicals. UPL today ranks amongst the leaders of the generic agrochemical companies in the world. This subsidiary is one of the biggest and most important investments from India into the Netherlands.
“Initially the ‘Factory of Chemical products’, the company that has now become Cerexagri was one of the first chemical companies to establish in Rotterdam. We settled here in 1908’’, says the General Manager from Cerexagri André Langendoen.
Rotterdam has become its prime location for doing business in Europe. This subsidiary has a production capacity of 45,000 tonnes of crop protection products. Cerexagri has announced a further expansion of the current manufacturing facility, resulting in additional jobs. This new area will be inaugurated in the Autumn of 2016.
The facility also includes an R&D department aimed to enhance the efficiency of their business. The development lab is mostly engaged in the development and registration of plant protection products and the improvement and support of production processes. The R&D department consists of two co-operating groups, Product Chemistry and Chemical Formulators.
“Cerexagri is based in Rotterdam because we can find well-trained staff here, we need those people in our product research and development” continues André. “Moreover, the advanced transport infrastructure allows us to ship our products from Rotterdam very quickly.” UPL recognizes the advantages of using the innovation-logistic synergy that the city offers to build their business in Europe. The Indian parent company refers to the cost-quality efficiency and the support offered by the central and local government authorities to be the key to further re-expand their activities in Rotterdam.
